Plant the Future
The Way to the Future

Our Vision
From Fall 2020 to Spring 2021, Plant the Future aims to plant over 1000 native trees using the collaborative efforts of individuals, the University of Texas at San Antonio, and community partners.
We are working to contribute to UN SDG 13: Climate Action, specifically Target 3.3: “improve education, awareness-raising and human and institutional capacity on climate change mitigation, adaptation, impact reduction and early warning”. We are looking to reduce the impact of greenhouse gases by bolstering carbon sequestration abilities. We will be raising awareness about the problem of deforestation and climate change through educational posts on our social media. As well as promoting trees as a viable solution for the sequestration of excess carbon dioxide in our atmosphere which contributes to climate change. Our project, Plant the Future, is centered on planting at least 1000 native Texas trees in our city. This is done through collaboration with community partners, and a social media campaigned target at the individual and group level.
We hope to inspire others that no action is too small in the fight against climate change. Even a singular tree planted has a myriad of benefits and shows commitment to restoring our environment.

A single mature tree over the course of a year can absorb up to 48 pounds of carbon dioxide, and release on average 260 pounds of oxygen in its place.
Planting 1000 trees would mean we mitigated 24 tons of carbon dioxide and released 130 tons of oxygen each year after maturation.
How to Get Involved
Group Planting Events
Join our contact list to stay up to date on our community planting events! We will host mass tree planting events and will need dedicated volunteers as we undertake this task.
Plant the Future is always looking for new partnerships. Contact us below if you are interested!

#PlantTheFuture
We encourage individuals to take action outside our events. We ask that participants take a picture of themselves with the tree, and share its GPS coordinates. This is to track your impact and show off all your great work. Use #PlantTheFuture on your post to get featured!
